CARLSBAD, CA --- March 1, 2002 --- PMC is a proud sponsor of Virginia Tech's entry in this year's Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. PMC has donated a model DC2-STN multi-axis, stand-alone motion controller to the Virginia Tech team. Over the past few months, PMC has provided support to some of Virginia Tech's brightest engineering students.

Take two bicycle wheels, a couple motors, and some electrical controls and put them together to make a vehicle that can travel autonomously. Starting from an idea created in a Kinematics class, the Bi-Planar Bicycle was nearly completely realized in the summer of 2001 when it first participated in the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. This year the team has gotten together to further improve and extend the capabilities of the vehicle so that it can be fully autonomous and compete again in the competition.

Virginia Tech's Autonomous Vehicle Team will compete against top Engineering schools in the 10th Annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition at Coronado Springs in Walt Disney World, FL - July 6-8, 2002. It is a multidisciplinary, theory-based, hands-on, team implemented, and outcome assessed competition that is based on product realization. Good luck to all the participating teams!

Precision MicroControl (PMC) designs, manufactures and markets high-performance multi-axis motion controllers for servo and stepper motor control.

Since pioneering the first multi-processor motion control architecture in 1987, PMC has been dedicated to meeting the needs of OEM machine builders, researchers and volume manufacturers in a wide range of industries, including semiconductor, electro-optic, machine tool and electronics assebly. Today, more than 140,000 PMC motion controllers are deployed around the world in a wide variety of demanding applications, such as high-performance pick-&-place machines, precision surgical instruments and Formula-1® racing simulators.
