The DCX-PCI 300 Series of motion montrollers allow the use of different cables, depending on the DCX-PCI-300 motherboard model used. One motherboard model is the high-density "-H" version, part number DCX-PCI-300-H, the other is the the ribbon cable "-R" version, part number DCX-PCI-300-R.
Note A: The high-density cable version of the motherboard - DCX-PCI300-H - is required if using the DCX-MC302-H Dual Servo and DCX-MC362-H Dual Stepper Modules. The Dual Axis Modules are not available in -R versions and are therefore not compatible with the DCX-PCI300-R ribbon cable version of the motherboard.
Note B: The high-density cable version of the motherboard - DCX-PCI300-H - can accept either -R (ribbon cable) versions or -H (high-density) versions of the plug-in modules. However to be able to use high-density cables, -H version plug-in modules must be used. The DCX-PCI300-R ribbon-cable version of the motherboard can only accept -R version plug-in modules.
Which cables can I use?
- The DCX-PCI-300-H (High-density connector) model allows the use of either high-density VHDCI-to-VHDCI SCSI cables (if using the -H version plug-in modules) or ribbon cables (if using the -R version plug-in modules). The high-density cables connect to the high-density SCSI connectors available on the motion control card's PCI slot mounting-bracket. If using -R version plug-in modules, the ribbon cables would connect directly to each plug-in module.

- The DCX-PCI-300-R (Ribbon connector) motherboard model can only use the 26-conductor IDC ribbon cables that the rest of the DCX product family uses. These cables connect to the IDC connector headers available on the individual -R (ribbon-cable) version function modules plugged into the motion control card. This model is not compatible with high-density cables.

Build Your Own Ribbon Cables
IDC ribbon cable components are inexpensive, widely available and easy to assemble. As a result, most customers choose to buy and assemble these cables themselves.
Components Required
26-conductor ribbon cable (cable only) is available from many manufacturers. We recommend:
- Manufacturer: Belden Corp.
- Part No: 9L28026, or equivalent.
- Description: Box of 100 ft. (30M) 26-conductor ribbon cable.
The mating IDC connectors are also available from several manufacturers. We recommend:
- Manufacturer: Circuit Assembly Corp.
- Part No: 26IDS2-C-SPT-SR, or equivalent.
- Description: 26-pin dual-row IDC Female connector assembly (polarized, with strain relief.)
Note: A small 3-4 inch (8-10cm) mini-vise clamp is useful (though not required) for installing the IDC connector onto the ribbon cable.
